Walk-off homer completes second cycle
Mercedes slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to cap his second career cycle and give the Barons a 7-5 victory over the Huntsville Stars at Regions Park.
With the game knotted at 5-5, Erick San Pedro started the Barons' 11th with a walk. Miguel Negron struck out, but Mercedes whacked his 11th homer of the season -- and fourth in six games -- to complete the fifth cycle in team history.
The 29-year-old second baseman also hit for the cycle on June 10, 2007, becoming the first Baron to accomplish the feat since Reggie Jackson in 1967.
