Lookouts to Host 2014 Southern League All-Star Game
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lookouts are excited to announce that the organization will host the 2014 Southern League All-Star Game presented by Coca-Cola and EPB Fiber Optics at AT&T Field. The 38th annual Southern League All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, June 17 at 7:15 p.m. with gates opening at 5:00 p.m. This is the first time the Lookouts have hosted the event since 2004.
This year's midsummer classic is just the centerpiece of a two day event that also includes the Home Run Derby which will be held at Historic Engel Stadium on Monday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. with gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Prior to the Home Run Derby the Lookouts will also host a Fan Fest at Engel Stadium that will feature an autograph session from the North and South Division All-Stars.
"Hosting the Southern League's best players in the Scenic City is an exciting opportunity for the Lookouts and the city of Chattanooga," said Lookouts General Manager Rich Mozingo. "We are also thrilled to bring baseball back to Historic Engel Stadium and showcase the rich baseball history this city has to offer."
Along with the All-Star Game, the team will hold a luncheon to recognize the All-Stars, coaches, managers and umpires. This special event will include a guest speaker and be open to the public. The luncheon will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17. Location, ticket prices and the guest speaker have yet to be announced.
The All-Star game and its festivities were announced on Friday, January 24, during a press conference held at AT&T Field. General Manager Rich Mozingo hosted the event along with Tony Killen of Coca-Cola and Jere Young of EPB Fiber Optics.
"As an organization we strive to be a part of events that highlight the amazing qualities this community has to offer," Killen said. "We feel the All-Star Game is a prime example of the competitive spirit which embodies the City of Chattanooga."
At the press conference the team also revealed the 2014 All-Star Game Logo, which features iconic Chattanooga landmarks including the Market Street Bridge and the 120-year old restored carousel in Coolidge Park.
"Partnering with an event which embraces the history of the city is a wonderful opportunity for EPB Fiber Optics," Young said. "We cannot wait to welcome the stars of tomorrow to Chattanooga and show them what this city has to offer."
In 2004, when the Lookouts last hosted the annual showcase, the game featured some of baseball's brightest stars including standout first baseman Prince Fielder. Lookouts who participated in that event included pitcher Todd Coffey and third baseman Edwin Encarnacion. In the years between these two games other players who have represented their clubs have been former Lookouts' first baseman and 2010 National League MVP Joey Votto and 2010 Lookouts' pitcher Kenley Jansen.
Tickets for the All-Star Events will go on sale March 22, 2014 with priority being given to Season and Mini-Pack ticket holders. Fans will be able to purchase general admission tickets for $9 ($7 for children and seniors), upper box tickets for $11, lower box for $15 and Home Run Derby/Fan Fest tickets for $5.
The Chattanooga Lookouts begin their 2014 regular season on April 3rd against the Jackson Generals at AT&T Field. Lookouts season ticket packages are on sale now at the stadium or by calling (423) 267-4TIX.
