BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A ugly 6-1 loss capped off the Birmingham Barons (18-26) five-game series with the Mississippi Braves (20-23) Monday night from Regions Field.

Mississippi's Riley Unroe tripled to deep left in the second inning and scored Andy Wilkins after his leadoff double. Catcher Jonathan Morales flew out to right one batter latter, scoring Unroe on a sacrifice fly to make it an early 2-0 Braves lead.
Leading 4-0 in the fifth, Braves designated hitter Ryan Casteel powered home his fourth homer of the season on a two-run shot to center field. Casteel had a big day, finishing 2-for-4 with the home run and an RBI single in the third to extend the lead to 4-0.
On the other side of the diamond, Braves starter Kyle Muller dominated and shutdown the Barons lineup. Outside of Basabe's hits, he overpowered numerous Barons hitters and struck out a season-high eight batters. Muller earned his second win of the season and lowered his earned run average to 2.18.
Barons starter Kodi Medeiros' struggles continued Monday, lasting just four innings and surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits. The Barons bullpen combined for five scoreless relief innings.
The Barons got on the board in the bottom of the third. After Ti'Quan Forbes walked and tagged up to second base, he came around to score on a two-out RBI single by White Sox No. seven prospect Luis Basabe.
Basabe was the Barons lone offense. He racked up the Barons only two hits and had reached base in each of his first three at bats (one was a throwing error from Muller).
The Braves knocked in three triples Monday night, a new season-high for them.
The Barons will enjoy a league-wide off day Tuesday before beginning a five-game road series against the Chattanooga Lookouts on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. Left-hander Bernardo Flores (2-5, 2.70) will make his ninth start this season.
WJOX-AM 690 will be the home of the Barons on Wednesday. Fans can tune into the Coca-Cola Pregame Show starting at 6:00 p.m.
