MOOSIC, Pa. (July 20, 2021) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders walked off with a 7-6 win over the Rochester Red Wings in 10 innings on Tuesday night at PNC Field. It was the third walk-off win of the season for the RailRiders.

Trailing 6-4 with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, Donny Sands ripped a three-run double to left field off Nick Goody to send Scranton/Wilkes-Barre home with the victory.

Deivi Garcia was terrific for the RailRiders on Tuesday night, becoming the first SWB pitcher this season to complete 6.0 innings on the mound. He allowed three runs on six hits to register the first quality start of the season for the RailRiders, while tying his season-high with nine strikeouts against only two walks.

After the Red Wings took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, the RailRiders struck back against Josh Rogers in the bottom of the fourth. Sands and Armando Alvarez launched back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning and tie the game. Later in the frame, Thomas Milone brought in Brandon Wagner with an RBI single to give the RailRiders a 3-2 lead.

Rochester tied the game in the top of the fifth on a Jakson Reetz solo home run, but could not capitalize on further opportunities against Garcia or Sal Romano and Brody Koerner out of the bullpen.

In the bottom of the eighth, Alvarez crushed his second home run of the game to left field to give the RailRiders a 4-3 lead. It was the third multi-homer game of his career, and his first since Aug. 5, 2018. In addition to the two round-trippers, Alvarez also made an incredible catch on a foul ball in the third inning, diving into the first base camera well to retire Jake Noll.

Adam Warren allowed back-to-back singles in the top of the ninth to Derek Dietrich and Humberto Arteaga, and a groundout from Rafael Bautista scored a run to tie the game at 4-4. The RailRiders went down in order in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, Greg Weissert allowed a leadoff two-run home run to Adrian Sanchez to give the Red Wings a 6-4 lead. With automatic runner Cristian Perez aboard at second, Goody walked Thomas Milone and Velazquez to load the bases and set the stage for Sands’ heroics.

POSTGAME NOTES: The RailRiders are now 3-4 in extra-innings games this season, and have won six games in their last turn at-bat... The triumph pushed SWB to 21 games over .500 on the season, a new high-water mark for the club.

The RailRiders continue their series with the Red Wings on Wednesday night at PNC Field.
