Bulls Storm By Iron Pigs, 7-4

12-Batter, 6-Run 6th Inning The Difference-Maker
10:40 PM EDT

Allentown, PA --- A 12-batter sixth inning eruption catapulted the Durham Bulls to a 7-4 victory over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs on Monday night at Coca Cola Park.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, the Bulls (10-9) knocked starting pitcher Adam Morgan out of the game, then outwaited the first Iron Pigs (5-14) reliever Adam Loewen en route to scoring six runs for a 6-2 lead. Mikie Mahtook tripled to begin the inning, then scored on a double inside the right field line by Joey Butler. After an error, Luke Maile's sacrifice fly tied the game. Following a single by Eugenio Velez, Taylor Motter looped in a wind-aided double near the left field line to score a pair. Loewen relieved Morgan, but 18 of his 20 pitches were balls, leading to four straight walks that forced in two more runs.

In the seventh, Motter delivered a sac fly to score Maile, who collected his third single of the game to lead off the frame.

Meanwhile, Bulls starter Matt Buschmann (W, 2-1) veered through traffic and bad luck to earn his second win. The Iron Pigs' leadoff hitter reached in four of the first five innings against Buschmann, but he would not conced the big inning. Lehigh Valley was poised to capitalize in both the third and fourth innings thanks to pop flies lost in the sky and wind-blown for hits, but only surrendered a run in each inning.

The Bulls picked up 11 hits in the victory, which kickstarted a seven-game road trip. Motter drove in a season-high three runs, while Butler went 2-4 with two more RBIs.

The series continues on Tuesday night with Scott Diamond (1-0, 1.29) opposing Paul Clemens (0-0, 4.91) at 7:05 PM ET.
