IronPigs Clip Bulls in Series Finale

Durham falls, still wins series

ALLENTOWN, PA - The Durham Bulls dropped the finale of their four-game set with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, falling 4-2 Thursday morning at Coca-Cola Park.

Lehigh Valley (6-16) struck first, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning when the rehabbing Domonic Brown singled home Darin Mastroianni.

After winning the first three games of the series, Durham (12-10) countered in the second as Curt Casali, Corey Brown and Leonardo Reginatto all reached base to begin the inning. After a pop out, Taylor Motter delivered an RBI single, before Eugenio Velez grounded out to score Brown and give the Bulls a 2-1 lead.

The IronPigs scored again in the bottom of the frame to tie the contest, before taking the lead for good in the fourth. With two outs, Tyler Henson doubled home a run, before Brown struck again, this time with an RBI single to left to score Henson and widen the gap to 4-2.

Rehabbing righty Chad Billingsley (1-1) picked up the victory by going 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two unearned runs on five hits, while Hector Neris earned his second save of the year with a scoreless ninth. Dylan Floro (2-2) suffered the loss for Durham, allowing four runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings of work. Right-hander Jim Miller saved the Durham bullpen, going the rest of the way, allowing just one hit over 3 1/3 innings.

Durham heads north to take on the Pawtucket Red Sox in a three-game set beginning Friday. Durham's starter is yet to be determined, while the PawSox will send RHP Matt Barnes (0-0, 5.63) to the bump in the series opener. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. from McCoy Stadium.
