Baysox Attempt Three World Records

July 23, 2010
The Bowie Baysox plan to assault three world records as the team battles the New Britain Rock Cats Saturday, July 31, at 6:35 p.m. After the game, the Baysox light up the skies around Prince George's Stadium with a fireworks extravaganza presented by Natelco.

Baysox Director of Promotions Lauren Phillips selected the records to be broken. "Our fans really enjoy working together to challenge world records," Phillips said. "This year, not only are we bringing back one of the most popular attempts of all time, but we introduce two brand new challenges."

One attempt has a history at the stadium. The team will attempt to set the record for the most people simultaneously sitting on whoopee cushions. The Baysox attempted to set the same record in 2003, 2004 and 2005. To make sure that fans are properly equipped, the first 1,500 fans ages three and up to register for the attempt receive a free whoopee cushion.

In addition to the whoopee cushions, the team will attempt to set the world record for the largest air guitar ensemble and most people simultaneously doing "The Twist." The latter challenge is intended to honor Chubby Checker, who recorded his rendition of "The Twist" 50 years ago.

Past world record attempts at the stadium include most people playing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" on the kazoo, most people wearing sunglasses at night, most people yo-yoing at once and most people brushing their teeth simultaneously.
