Redbirds Sweep Doubleheader

June 1, 2015

The Memphis Redbirds swept a doubleheader from the Salt Lake Bees on Monday night. In game one, Memphis starter Tyler Lyons tossed a complete game shutout in the Redbirds' 2-0 win over Salt Lake. Lyons allowed just three hits and did not allow a Bees' runner to advance past first base and retired thirteen of the last fourteen batters he faced. All three Salt Lake hits were singles by Ryan Jackson, C.J. Cron and D'Arby Myers, whose hit came in his first career Triple-A at bat in the third inning. Bees' starter Tyler DeLoach (1-1) went five innings and allowed just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

In the nightcap, the Redbirds prevailed 8-2 over the Bees. Memphis took command of the game with five runs in the first inning off of Salt Lake starter Steven Hensley (2-3), as the first eight batters all reached base, highlighted by a two run homer by Dan Johnson. Down 5-0, the Bees got on the board with an RBI single by Alex Yarbrough in the third inning. Trailing 8-1, Salt Lake scored one run in the fifth on an RBI double by Ryan Jackson, but that would be all of the offense for the Bees, who managed just two runs on nine hits in the twinbill.
