Episode 37:
Three Strikes
- The big news of the week came Wednesday when the Reds, White Sox and Dodgers completed a three-team, seven-player trade with Cincinnati and Los Angeles picking up three prospects apiece and Chicago acquiring two-time All-Star Todd Frazier. Tyler and Sam discuss why it looks like the Dodgers picked up the best prospect trio in the deal and what that could mean about their future moves.
- Before that deal went down, the Phillies grabbed headlines by acquiring Mark Appel when their deal for Ken Giles became official. (The original deal was reported to have included outfielder Derek Fisher, but Appel replaced Fisher in the official trade.) The guys talk about what the transaction should mean for the 2013 first overall pick and how we view him going forward.
- Along those same lines, the Braves and Phillies have made tons of prospect-based moves to bolster their farm systems in preparation for separate rebuilds. Tyler and Sam talk about who they think has the upper hand, as of the pod taping.
Aaron Blair interview
- Blair was traded along with Dansby Swanson and Ender Inciarte to the Braves last week as part of the shocking deal that sent Shelby Miller to the D-backs. Atlanta's No. 4 prospect called into the show to talk about how he heard about the deal, what he knows about the Braves organization, his 2015 season and how he's preparing to crack the Majors in 2016.
Ben's Biz Banter
- MiLB.com's Benjamin Hill joins for his weekly podcast segment to tak about his fondest stories of the 2015 calendar year, including the end of an era in New Britain and the Norfolk executive who still makes the International League schedule by hand.
