Wings Celebrate Costello Aug. 2

Bobblehead giveaway for 1st 1000 fans
April 26, 2016

Fred Costello, celebrating his 40th year as organist for the Rochester Red Wings, is the longest reining sports organist in the country. To commemorate his 40th season the Red Wings have a pair of special events on July 28 and August 2.

As Fred closes in on his 3,000th Wings game, the team and fans will honor him with a collectible bobblehead doll on August 2 - the anniversary of Fred's 2,000th Wings game in 2004 - courtesy of AT&T. Fred and his family will be honored in a pre-game on-field ceremony.

In addition to the highly collectible bobblehead giveaway for the first 1,000 fans age 21 and older, AT&T will also give three lucky fans the chance to sit in the press box production room for an inning, meet Fred and get an autographed photo, and play a "charge" note during the game under Fred's direction - while our production team provides video and photo coverage for social media sharing. Each winner will receive VIP parking, a bobblehead, and two Premium tickets to the game.

Congratulations to Ron Norris, Michael Giroux, and Paul Russo - our winners in the AT&T "Play Along with Fred" opportunity. Click here to see photos of Ron, Mike and Paul with Fred on August 2.

On July 28, Fred Costello and special guests performed a one night only show at Abilene Bar & Lounge, 153 Liberty Pole Way. Fred was joined onstage by familiar Frontier Field faces and Wings front office staffers, past and present - including the popular host of Fan Feud Grant Anderson, and a rare singing appearance by Jimmy The Disco Raker. As part of the event, John Berg and Cathy Eckert won a special gift bag including a Fred bobblehead, two tickets to the August 2 game, a copy of Fred's book, and his latest CD.

Fred joined the Red Wings in 1977 after a successful 11 year tour with his group performing at the top venues in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Hollywood, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. His jazz group "Fred Costello & Co." performs at local clubs, concerts and at private functions. Fred, a Syracuse NY native, has been featured as top sports organist on NBC's Game Of The Week, Newsweek, USA Today & NY Times.

He was elected to the Rochester Walk Of Fame in 1999 and given the Charlie Wagner Award from the Press-Radio Club in 2009.

In 2011, Fred received the prestigious "Spirit Of The International League Award". Fred's local musical involvement in addition to nightclub engagements includes his music studio, Costello Music, which is located in the world famous House Of Guitars.

Fred has received offers from the Yankees, Mets, Rockies & Sabres but has remained in Rochester with his music commitments.

Fred Costello's Autobiography, "A LIFETIME OF NIGHTCLUBS & BALLPARKS" is Fred's story of wanting to be either a baseball player or professional musician. When the dust settles, he's a musician at the ballpark with 40 interesting years in between.

Fred's latest CD, "Anthology", showcases his versatility in an array of settings including jazz, funk and blues. The CD includes recordings from nightclub performances, studio sessions and previously released material.
