Mud Hens Blank Bulls In Trip Opener, 5-0

Wilk Falls Against Former Club

Toledo, OH --- Chad Bell and four Toledo relievers combined on a four-hit shutout of Durham in the series opener on Tuesdsay, defeating the Bulls 5-0 at Fifth Third Field.

Bell (W, 2-0) worked in and out of trouble during his entire five-inning stint. The Bulls (18-28) placed the leadoff hitter on in four of his five innings, but stranded seven baserunners and lost one on a double play. After a leadoff double by Nick Franklin in the sixth against reliever Angel Nesbitt, the next 12 batters were retired to end the game.

Adam Wilk (L, 1-5), who went 15-17 over 42 starts as a Mud Hen, permitted four runs over six innings to take the loss. Toledo scored twice in the first inning on a triple by Chad Huffman and a sacrifice fly. John Hicks homered in the second before Wilk settled in over the next three innings.

The Mud Hens (19-24) collected three sacrifice flies during the game.

Tuesday's shutout marked the sixth suffered by the Bulls in their 22 May games, and eighth of the season.  

Wilk allowed four runs over his six innings, permmitting seven hits and fanning six. Parker Markel gave up one run in the seventh, while Danny Farquhar worked a perfect eighth inning.

The series continues Wednesday morning at 10:35 AM ET with Justin Marks (1-4, 4.29) pitching against Shane Greene on a major league rehab.
