May 29, 2016

Columbus, OH --- Erik Gonzalez hit a game-opening homer leading Columbus past the Durham Bulls 3-0 on Saturday night.

Austin Pruitt's first pitch was hit into the left field bleachers by Gonzalez to give the Clippers (27-21) a 1-0 lead, then Ronny Rodriguez singled to right with the bases loaded to cap the three-run inning.

Cody Anderson and three Columbus relievers combined on the five-hitter, which was Durham's ninth shutout suffered in the season's first 50 games.

Trailing 3-0 after 3 1/2 innings, the game was delayed by 62 minutes by rain. Following the delay, Pruitt (L, 3-3) returned for two additional scoreless innings.

Danny Farquhar tossed two scoreless innings, followed by a quiet eighth from Neil Wagner.

Kyle Roller had two hits for the Bulls, who stranded the bases loaded in the seventh and two in scoring position in the ninth.

The Bulls' road trip finishes on Sunday afteroon at 1:05 PM ET with Adam Wilk (1-5, 3.25) starting against TJ House (3-2, 4.97).
