Oaks & Calhoun Sweep Weekly Awards

Teammates First Pair of Drillers to Receive Honor Since Seager & Urias
June 13, 2016

The Texas League announced that Tulsa Drillers teammates Trevor Oaks and Willie Calhoun have been honored as the Pitcher and Player of the Week for the period of June 6 - June 12. The announcement marks the first time a pair of Drillers have swept the weekly awards since Corey Seager and Julio Urias combined to do so last April during the opening week of the 2015 season.

Oaks earned his first nomination of the year after tossing seven shutout innings against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Wednesday, June 8 in a 1-0 Tulsa win. It was Oaks' most dominant start of the season as he allowed just a single hit, to go with only one walk, while striking out four.

The right-hander has enjoyed a fantastic start to his Double-A career as the win on Wednesday marked the sixth straight game he has started and earned the winning decision. His efforts also helped lead the Drillers to a franchise-record 10th straight victory.

Calhoun, who is ranked by MLB.com as the Los Angeles Dodgers number fifteen overall prospect, had another fantastic week at the plate that led to him being selected as the Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks. The lefty-swinging second baseman batted a team-leading .360 with 4 home runs, 3 doubles and 6 RBI while scoring 6 runs to help spark Tulsa's offense over the 7 game span.

The Drillers are currently in the middle of an 8-game road trip through Springfield and Little Rock. They will return to ONEOK Field to wrap up the first half with an 8-game homestand, beginning on Father's Day, June 19, that will run through the following Sunday, June 26.
