Slowey splendid in rehab start

A few more outings like Monday could be just what the doctor ordered for Kevin Slowey.

Slowey allowed two hits and struck out three over 5 2/3 shutout innings as Class A Advanced Fort Myers rallied past Charlotte, 4-3, in 10 innings.

A former second-round pick by the Twins, Slowey was making his second rehab appearance with the Miracle. He retired the first seven batters in order before allowing Mayobanex Acosta's single with one out in the third inning. Slowey retired his next eight batters before Acosta singled off him to open the sixth. Slowey ended his night by erasing Acosta on a double play by Dustin Bell.

Slowey struggled in his first Florida State League outing in three years, allowing a run in an inning of work on April 23, also against Charlotte.

The 6-foot-3 right-hander was placed on the disabled list on April 9 with shoulder bursitis. Prior to his injury, Slowey had a 2.45 ERA in three appearances with the Twins. The Texas native has won double-digit games each of the past three seasons in the Majors, culminating in a career-high 13 wins in 2010.

The Miracle's Nathan Hanson hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the ninth and Nicholas Romero singled home Jonathan Goncalves with two outs in the 10th with the go-ahead run.

Hak-Ju Lee was hitless in five at-bats for the Stone Crabs, ending his hit streak at 14 games. Merrill Kelly, an eighth-round pick last year, didn't get a decision after surrendering two hits and fanning two over seven innings.
