Yard Goats Come From Behind to Beat Richmond

Manchester, NH- The Hartford Yard Goats (38-31) defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels (27-44) by the score of 7-6 on Wednesday evening at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. Hartford was behind 4-0 before it came to the plate in the first inning and trailed 6-2 in the seventh inning before coming back to win and ended a 3 game losing streak. Rosell Herrera cranked a 3-run home run in the seventh inning to make it a one run game before Dillon Thomas ripped a pinch hit RBI double tying the game in the eighth inning. Zach Osborne's sacrifice fly scored Thomas from third base and gave the Yard Goats a 7-6 lead. Austin House worked two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win and Matt Carasiti hurled a perfect ninth with two strikeouts for his lead leading 19th save.     

The Flying Squirrels scored four runs in the first inning against Hartford starter Zach Jemiola. Richmond put together four straight hits, including a 2-run double by Hunter Cole, giving the Flying Squirrels a 2-0 lead. Steve Lerud added two the lead with a two out 2 RBI single and it was 4-0.

The Yard Goats chipped away with single runs in the second and third innings on Correlle Prime's RBI double and Rosell Herrera's two-out single and it was 4 -2 after three innings. Richmond added runs on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and solo home run by Hunter Cole in the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Flying Squirrels starter Matt Gage departed with the 4-run lead after six innings. 

However, the Yard Goats continued their comeback in the seventh inning off reliever Preston Claiborne. Zach Osborne began with a walk and took second base on Raimel Tapia's single. Then with two out, Rosell Herrera blasted a pitch over the right field fence and make it a 6-5 game, giving Harford some life.

The Yard Goats rally continued in the eighth inning. Jan Vazquez singled to off reliever Tyler Mizenko. Dillon Thomas followed with a pinch hit RBI single scoring Vazquez from first base and tied the game 6-6. Mizenko then threw a wild pitch putting Thomas at third base. Zach Osborne's sacrifice fly scored Thomas giving Hartford its first lead.      

The Yard Goats and Flying Squirrels will wrap up the three game series with a day game on Thursday (1:35 PM) in Manchester. German Marquez will start for Hartford while Tyler Beede will pitch for Richmond. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
