June 24, 2016

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls saw their four-game winning streak come to an end Friday night at the DBAP, falling to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-1 in the opener of a three-game set.

The Bulls (34-42) opened the scoring in the first inning, as Eury Perez doubled in his first at bat with the team, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on Richie Shaffer's two-out single to right field.

Lehigh Valley (43-32) finally struck in the sixth though, as Taylor Featherston worked a two-out walk and scored when JP Crawford tripled down the right field line. Nick Williams then followed with a bloop single to score Crawford and put the visitors in front 2-1.

In the eighth the IronPigs plated two more runs, as Darnell Sweeney's safety squeeze scored Brock Stassi, and Crawford struck later in the frame with an RBI single.

David Buchanan (4-4) picked up the victory for Lehigh Valley by tossing six innings of one-run ball, while Edward Mujica earned his 18th save of the campaign with a scoreless ninth. Adam Wilk (2-8) pitched well in the loss for Durham, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven across seven innings.

Shaffer finished 2-for-4 for the Bulls, while Perez doubled and scored in his Durham debut. Dayron Varona went hitless for the home side, halting his hitting streak at five games.

The series continues Saturday when the Bulls send LHP Justin Marks (2-5, 4.22) to the mound against LHP Anthony Vasquez (0-0, 6.10) for the IronPigs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
