Brinson goes on DL with hamstring strain

Lewis Brinson hit the ground running with his new organization, but now he will be on hiatus for a least a week.

Milwaukee's second-ranked prospect, acquired in the Trade Deadline deal that sent veteran catcher Jonathan Lucroy to Texas, was placed on the seven-day disabled list Monday with a strained left hamstring.

The 22-year-old outfielder suffered the injury trying to beat out a ground ball in the first inning for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Sunday against Albuquerque.

Brinson, ranked 19th overall on MLB.com's Top 100 prospect list, started his Brewers career with four consecutive multi-hit games. He went 10-for-18 with a homer, eight RBIs and three stolen bases over that span. An eight-game hitting streak came to an end Aug. 10 against Omaha, but two days later, Brinson delivered a 3-for-5 performance against Albuquerque.

Overall, the 2012 first-round pick has slashed .391/.375/.543 through 12 games with the Sky Sox. He struggled at Double-A Frisco before the trade with a .237/.280/.431 slash line over 77 games.

Brinson entered the season coming off a monster 2015 campaign in which the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Florida native slashed .332/.403/.601 across three levels, including a .433/.541/.567 line in eight games for Triple-A Round Rock.
