Sea Dogs drop home finale 4-3 in 11 innings

Moncada hits 11th home run with Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine - For the second straight game, the Trenton Thunder (83-51) prevailed over the Sea Dogs (53-78) at Hadlock Field, winning by a final score of 4-3 in 11 innings in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368 to close out the Sea Dogs' home schedule in 2016.

The Sea Dogs and Trenton split the series and played 26 innings of baseball in the final two games. 

Jose Rosario reached on an error by Yoan Moncada and advanced to second base to begin the 11th inning. After Austin Maddox (L, 2-3) loaded the bases, Abiatal Avelino hit a line drive off the the glove of Ryan Court - who was drawn in with nobody out - and Rosario and Francisco scored the winning runs.

Yoan Moncada hit a solo home run on the first pitch from Daniel Camarena in the bottom of the first inning to give Portland the early lead. The homer was Monada's 11th of the year in Double-A and his second from the right side.

Trenton took the lead in the third inning on a two-run home run by Mark Payton off of Jalen Beeks. 

Beeks allowed just the two runs on four hits in six innings, walking two and striking out five.

Camarena allowed two runs on five hits over 7.1 innings of work, walking one and striking out seven. J.R. Graham (W, 2-1) worked 2.2 scoreless in relief, and Cale Coshow worked a XX 11th to earn his fourth save.

Portland tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. With runners on first and second and one out, Aneury Tavarez hit an RBI double to left off of Graham to score Tzu-Wei Lin and tie the game 2-2.

Jake Drehoff held the Thunder scoreless for a season-high 3.2 innings in relief of Beeks.

The Sea Dogs play their final eight games of the season on the road, beginning tomorrow night against the division-leading Reading Fightin Phils. First pitch from FirstEnergy Stadium is scheduled for 6:45 PM. RHP Kevin McAvoy (8-7, 5.54) gets the start for Portland against RHP Ricardo Pinto (5-6, 4.20) for Reading. Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6:15 PM.
