Rincon plates seven in Storm surge

Lancaster's Clear Channel Stadium is nicknamed "The Hangar." On Tuesday night, it was the visiting Lake Elsinore Storm that hung a beating on the hometown JetHawks.

Edinson Rincon went 5-for-6 with a homer, a double and a career-high seven RBIs while Jedd Gyorko homered, doubled twice, singled twice and drove in four runs as the Storm smote the JetHawks, 24-4.

Both the Storm's 24 runs and 24 hits were season highs; only Rancho Cucamonga, which scored 25 runs on May 25 (also at Lancaster), has scored more in a California League game this season.

After a scoreless first inning, Lake Elsinore kicked off six consecutive multi-run frames with a six-spot in the second. Rincon led off the inning with a single, which his teammates followed with four more hits and a walk before Lancaster starter Jake Buchanan recorded an out. The 20-year-old third baseman singled again with two outs, driving in the sixth Storm run and ending Buchanan's night.

The Padres' Class A Advanced affiliate added two more runs in the third on back-to-back homers by Nathan Freiman and Jonathan Galvez, then scored six more runs in the fourth, during which Rincon collected his third single of the game.

After Jeudy Valdez doubled to open the fifth, Gyorko slugged his 13th longball of the season to make the score 16-2. Rincon followed with his lone out of the game, but the Storm scored another run on three more hits.

Gyorko and Rincon belted back-to-back doubles in the sixth, with the latter driving in a pair of runs. Rincon capped his career night with a two-out grand slam in the seventh for the final four Storm runs.

Dean Anna and Nathan Freiman each had three hits, including a homer, and four other Storm batters collected two hits. The team combined for six doubles and a season-high five home runs.

Lake Elsinore went 14-for-24 with runners in scoring position and left just five men on base.

Storm starter Jose De Paula improved to 4-3 after allowing two unearned runs on three hits over five frames. The southpaw struck out one and walked a pair as Lake Elsinore avoided a three-game sweep with the win.

Though the wind was blowing out to right field at as much as 15 mph, it didn't seem to help the JetHawks, who had two doubles and five singles in the game. Right fielder Grant Hogue went 1-for-3 and drove in three of the four Lancaster runs.

Buchanan, the Astros' eighth-round pick out of N.C. State in 2010, fell to 4-4 in his shortest appearance of the season. He yielded six runs on eight hits and a walk in 1 2/3 frames. Despite the rough outing, Buchanan -- who tossed a four-hit shutout at Lake Elsinore on May 1 -- still sports a solid 3.79 ERA.
