Lueke Selected to PCL All-Star Team

Right-hander to represent Rainiers, PCL in Salt Lake City
June 29, 2011

Tacoma, WA - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Tacoma Rainiers reliever Josh Lueke has been selected to the 2011 PCL All-Star Team.

Lueke, a 26-year-old right-hander, has compiled a 1-3 record with a team-high seven saves and a 2.48 ERA over 23 appearances and 32.2 innings pitched with the Rainiers in 2011. He has recorded 17 scoreless outings at Tacoma with 24 strikeouts and 11 walks.

The Covington, Kentucky native began the season on Seattle's Opening Day roster and went 1-1 with a 17.05 ERA over eight trips out of the Mariners bullpen in his major league debut.

Originally selected by Texas in the 16th round of the 2007 draft, Lueke is currently in his second season in the Mariners organization. He was acquired by Seattle as part of a six-player trade that sent left-handed pitcher Cliff Lee to the Rangers on July 9, 2010.

Lueke's All-Star selection is the first of his career and marks the third time a Rainiers pitcher has been named to the PCL All-Star roster over the last two seasons. Left-handers Luke French and Chris Seddon were both named to the team in 2010.

The 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game will take place at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah, home of the PCL's Salt Lake Bees, on Wednesday, July 13. The PCL squad will face off against All-Star selections from the International League beginning at 6 p.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast live locally on South Sound Sports 850-AM and televised nationally on MLB TV.

Lueke and the rest of the Rainiers begin a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday, June 30 at 7:05 p.m. The upcoming homestand will feature a Tasty Thursday, a Saturday evening game and post-game fireworks on Friday, July 1, and Sunday, July 3, as part of Independence Weekend at Cheney Stadium.
