Stephen Kohlscheen wins award with 6.0 scoreless innings in one start this week
August 8, 2011

Burlington, IA - Clinton right-hander Stephen Kohlscheen has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 7, announced today by the league office in Beloit, WI. Kohlscheen made one start on the week, a win on Sunday in Burlington in which he logged 6.0 scoreless, three-hit innings, walked two and struck out six.

Kohlscheen, 22, started the year 1-3 with a 6.39 ERA in 16 games, one start with Clinton before a midseason move to short-A Everett. After going 2-0 with a 3.03 ERA in nine games, seven starts with the AquaSox, he was called back up to join the LumberKings' rotation.

Seattle's 45th round pick in 2010 out of Auburn, Kohlscheen is now 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER in 11.0 IP) in his two starts with the LumberKings including a spot start against Beloit on May 2, a 5.0-inning scoreless outing in a 13-6 win.

It's the first Pitcher of the Week award won by a LumberKing since right-hander Tom Wilhelmsen, currently of the Seattle Mariners, won it in back-to-back weeks from August 8 through August 16 last season. Kalian Sams (May 30-June 5) and Kevin Rivers (July 18-24) have both won the Offensive Player of the Week award.

The LumberKings (22-20) and Bees (14-28) continue the series with game three of a four-game set tonight night at Community Field, first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Left-hander Anthony Fernandez (4-3, 3.11) gets the starting nod for Clinton, while Burlington counters with right-hander Josh Bowman (7-4, 3.64).
