34 former Kernels headed to Angels' Spring Training

Cedar Rapids, IA - Thirty-four former Kernels will be in the LA Angels' camp when Spring Training opens on February 20th in Tempe, AZ. Twenty-five former players are members of the Angels 40-man roster and an additional nine were added as non-roster invitees. General Manager Gary Dipoto made the announcement on Wednesday.

The former players on the 40-man roster include pitchers Trevor Bell, Ysmael Carmona, Bobby Cassevah, John Hellweg, Kevin Jepsen, Mike Kohn, Fabio Martinez, Ariel Pena, Garrett Richards, Ervin Santana, Rich Thompson and Jordan Walden; catchers Hank Conger, and Bobby Wilson; infielders Alexi Amarista, Erick Aybar, Alberto Callaspo, Luis Jimenez, Howie Kendrick, Andrew Romine, Jean Segura, and Mark Trumbo; and outfielders Peter Bourjos, Jeremy Moore, and Mike Trout.

Two members of the 2011 Kernels were added as non-roster invitees: catcher Carlos Ramirez and pitcher Daniel Tillman.

Seven more (three pitchers and four position players) have played in Cedar Rapids: pitchers Ryan Brasier, David Carpenter and Matt Shoemaker; catcher Alberto Rosario; infielders Efren Navarro, and Darwin Perez; and outfielder Matt Long.

The Angels' minor league camp opens the first week of March with pitchers and catchers, followed position players reporting the second week. The 2012 Kernels arrive in Cedar Rapids on Monday, April 2.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels open the 2012 season on the road at Wisconsin on Thursday, April 5, with the home opener on Monday, April 9 vs. Clinton at 6:35 pm. Season tickets and 10-game coupon books are on sale now at www.kernels.com, with individual game tickets going on sale March 19 at 10 am.
