Bulls Drop Third Straight In Toledo 4-3

August 12, 2012
Toledo, OH --- Jerad Head doubled home the tie-breaking run in the fourth inning and the Toledo Mud Hens held on for a 4-3 victory over the Durham Bulls on Sunday night.

The Bulls (57-66), who dropped their third straight on this road trip, took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Durham strung four straight hits together against Thad Weber (W, 7-11). Rich Thompson doubled to open the game, then scored on a single up the middle by Stephen Vogt for a 1-0 lead. Chris Gimenez looped a single to right, with right fielder Ben Guez bobbling the pick-up, allowing Vogt to score. After a single by Leslie Anderson, Brooks Conrad lifted a sacrifice fly to right to bring Gimenez home for a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, Chris Archer (L, 6-9) couldn't hold the lead. Justin Henry singled, Head walked ahead of a three-run blast by Don Kelly to right field to tie the score. The Bulls were fortunate to exit the inning tied as Jesus Feliciano threw out Guez advancing to third on a single. John Lindsey was attempting to score, but Guez was tagged out before Lindsey touched home.

In the fourth, Archer retired the first two Mud Hens before Henry singled ahead of a double into left-center by Head to give Toledo (49-74) a 4-3 lead.

Durham had two good chances to tie the game in the middle innings, putting Thompson at third with one out in the fifth, and wasting a double by Henry Wrigley to lead off the sixth, but failed to score each time.

Archer allowed a season-high nine hits over six innings, fanning five and walking two. Frank DeLosSantos and Dane DeLaRosa each tossed a scoreless inning, with DeLosSantos pitching through a bases loaded seventh.

The Bulls close out their series with Toledo on Monday night at 7:00 PM ET with Alexander Colome (0-1, 2.25) starting against lefty Adam Wilk (5-11, 3.01) from Fifth Third Field.
