Bisons Go Long, but Fall Short in Richmond

Homers from Andy Gonzalez and Brad Snyder came in a losing cause because Richmond strung together four consecutive singles in a three-run seventh inning. Buffalo is now 3-3 on their season-opening eight game roadtrip.

Buffalo was held to just one hit through the first six innings, but Gonzalez's two-run shot to deep left field gave the team a 2-1 lead. Trailing 5-2 in the ninth, Snyder hit a solo shot to right as the Herd's last-inning rally fell short.

The main culprit Tuesday was the strikeout as 13 Buffalo batters went down on strikes.

Buffalo stayed close to Richmond for most of the game because of the work of Matt Ginter. Making his Bisons debut, the veteran righty allowed just one run on three hits over five innings. He also struck out three and walked none.

But the Braves pulled ahead in the seventh off reliever Rich Rundles (1-1) with four straight hits. Singles by Joe Borchard, Clint Sammons, Wes Timmons and Josh Anderson gave Richmond the 3-2 lead. An insurance run scored on an error by Aaron Herr, one of three Buffalo miscues on the night.

Sammons singled in a fifth run in the eighth inning before Snyder closed out the game's scoring with his first home run of the season.
