Prospect Preview: LHP Sean Nolin

February 19, 2013

We won't know the full make-up of the Fisher Cats roster until early April when the team breaks camp in Dunedin, Fla.  In the meantime, we'll take a look at some players who could find there way to New Hampshire , either in April or sometime later this season.

Today, we take a look at starting pitcher Sean Nolin .

Nolin is no stranger to the Fisher Cats having made his Double-A debut at the end of the 2012 season.  His run through the Eastern League was a microcosm of his entire campaign last summer.

The big Texan spent the majority of the year with Dunedin in the Advanced A Florida State League, compiling a perfect 9-0 record and 2.19 earned run average.  Over 17 games (15 starts), he tossed 86.1 innings and gave up just 72 hits with ninety strikeouts.  Nolin, who measures in at 6'5" and 235 pounds, completed his undefeated run with a victory in his only decision over three starts with the Fisher Cats.

In total, he went 10-0 with a 2.04 ERA over 20 games/18 starts a season ago, tossing 101.1 innings, recording 108 hits against just 27 walks.  Opponents hit just .218 against him, including a paltry .170 mark by Eastern League hitters.

Coming into spring training, Nolin, a sixth round draft pick in 2010, is garnering plenty of buzz, especially after the Blue Jays traded some of their top pitchers during this past off-season.  While Nolin participates in big league spring training, here is what other publications have said about him as we head into the 2013 season.

Nolin is rated the Blue Jays Prospect to Watch by Sports Illustrated .

Nolin is ranked No. 8 in the Blue Jays minor league system by both MLB.com and BleacherReport.com .

Baseball Prospectus ranks him much higher, at No. 4.
