Bulls Stymied 2-1 in Charlotte

April 16, 2013
Fort Mill, SC --- A bases loaded walk in the Charlotte third inning stood the test of time as the Knights edged the Durham Bulls 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Knights Stadium.

Alex Colome (L, 1-1) battled his command all afternoon, but nearly wiggled out from a bases loaded, none out jam.  After a single, walk and error filled the bases, Colome induced a grounder leading to a force at the plate, then fanned Bryan Anderson.  However, Colome went to a 3-1 count before walking Jared Mitchell to put the Knights (5-8) up 2-1.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Bulls (8-5) tied the score after a one-out triple by Wil Myers set the table.  Chris Gimenez singled to left-center with two down to even the score 1-1.

The Bulls had a sound scoring chance in the first inning against Andre Rienzo (W, 1-1), filling the bases with one out, but Rienzo escaped on a strikeout by Gimenez and a flyball off the bat of Brandon Guyer.

Rienzo settled down after the third, combining with two relievers to hold the Bulls hitless over the final 6 1/3 innings.

Colome worked five innings on 98 pitches, walking four and striking out seven.  Colome had gone 11 innings without allowing a run in his first two starts.  Steve Geltz and Frank DeLosSantos threw three perfect innings in relief.  Durham pitchers retired the final 12 Knights hitters.

Myers paced the six-hit attack, going 2-4.

The home-and-home series continues on Wednesday night, but shifts venues to the DBAP at 7:05 PM ET with JD Martin (0-1, 6.23) starting for Durham against Simon Castro (0-1, 5.25).
