Captains and Loons Split Double Header on 4/20

(Midland, MI) - The Lake County Captains and the Great Lakes Loons split the double header on Saturday Night. The Captains won game one by a final of 11-7. The Loons won Game 2 by a final of 9-4.

Game one was won in the top of the sixth inning when the Captains scored five times in the inning to take a commanding lead. The big hit in the inning was a bases clearing double by Jorge Martinez. Martinez had six RBI in game one. The Captains prevailed by a final of 11-7.

In Game two , the Loons scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Great Lakes used five hits and two walks in the inning to jump ahead 6-1. The big hit in the inning was a bases clearing double by Jesus Valadez and the Loons went on to win 9-4.

For the Captains, Eric Haase had two doubles in Game one, and Nellie Rodriguez reached base in both games of the Double Header and his on-base streak now stands at an even 12 ballgames. Logan Vick had two hits, he scored three runs and also had two RBI's on the night for the Captains. James Baldwin had four RBI's in game two for the Loons including a two run homerun.

In Game One RHP Mitch Brown (1-1) got the ball for the Captains. Mitch pitched five innings and allowed five hits with five runs allowed. Four runs were earned. He walked four and struck out four. Mitch earned the win. Louis Head pitched two innings, allowing three hits two unearned runs and he fanned one.

In Game two, the Captains turned to RHP Luis Morel (1-1) to start the game. Morel took the loss after just lasting two thirds of an inning. Morel allowed six earned runs on five hits and two walks. He did strike out one. Nick Pasquale pitched four and one third innings in relief for the Captains. He allowed one earned runs on two hits. Nick struck out five and hit one batter. Josh Martin allowed the two run homer to James Baldwin in his one inning of relief.

For the Loons in Game one RHP Zachary Bird got the start and did not factor in the decision. Bird pitched three and two thirds innings allowing three runs on six hits. Arismendy Ozoria (0-1) was saddled with the loss. The Great Lakes bullpen allowed 10 runs over three innings as the Captains won by four.

Great Lakes gave the ball to RHP Angel Sanchez to start Game two. Sanchez (1-1) pitched six innings and allowed four runs. Two of the four runs were earned. Sanchez gave up five hits and struck out five. Scott Griggs pitched one scoreless inning for the Loons in game two.

The Captains will have stay in Midland, Michigan again on Sunday. Another double Header is scheduled. In Game One the Captains will send RHP Jake Sisco (0-1, 1.93) to the mound. The Loons will counter with RHP Jharel Cotton (0-1, 10.13). In Game 2, The Captains will hand the ball over to RHP Dylan Baker (0-1, 7.00) and Great Lakes will let RHP Ralston Cash (1-0, 0.93) start the game. First pitch on Sunday will be at 2:05 PM for Game 1, then Game two will follow about 30 minutes after game one concludes.
