Hogan the hero as Tribe get even

Doug Hogan slugged a walk-off homer leading off the 10th inning Friday as the Spokane Indians edged the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 11-10, to tie the Northwest League Championship Series at one win apiece.

Hogan entered the game as a defensive replacement in the seventh and ended up the hero, smacking his first postseason homer off Volcanoes reliever Aaron King to end the 3-hour, 32-minute contest. The 23-year-old catcher led the club with seven homers in the regular season.

Eric Fry homered and drove in three runs and Jared Bolden went 2-for-5 with three RBIs for Spokane (1-1), which bounced back from a 5-3 loss in Thursday's series opener. The Indians rallied in the sixth, seventh and eighth to force extra innings.

Corey Young (1-0) allowed one hit over 2 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Martin Perez started and surrendered four runs on six hits over four frames for Spokane.

King (0-1) was charged with two runs on three hits over two innings after Volcanoes starter Kyle Nicholson allowed two runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 frames.

Salem-Keizer manager Tom Trebelhorn was ejected in the sixth following a bases-loaded RBI groundout by Spokane's Zach Zaneski.

Johnny Monell hit a three-run homer in the seventh for the two-time defending champion Volcanoes, who host Game 3 of the best-of-5 series on Saturday. Box score
