Blue Jays GM talks Bisons

Toronto General Manager Alex Anthopoulos in town for Monday's game
June 24, 2013

Toronto Blue Jays General Manager Alex Anthopoulos is in Buffalo for tonight's game against Durham. He stopped in before the game to talk about the Bisons to the media. Here's what he had to say:

On Jose Reyes:

"He's not all the way there, but he says it's getting close. It's going to be good to see him and the more at-bats we get for him down here and him to go through some things, it's good for him."

"It's as much about having him get his at-bats, get his timing and stamina-wise not having to miss any time when he's back with us."

On the Bisons drawing over 41,000 over the weekend with Jose Reyes in town.

"We're glad to do it. If that moves the needle for these guys here, great. We love the affiliation. We love the relationship. If I could come up with a stronger word than 'love' I would do it, but it's just a great setup for us."

On Ricky Romero and Bisons management:

"I haven't seen. It sounds like he's making strides."

"Marty Brown and Bob Stanley, I give them unbelievable credit because I remember when I think rock bottom for (Romero) was earlier in the year I think he went a third of an inning or two-thirds of an inning and we were looking at the box score and just thinking, we may have to look to move him from here… and (Blue Jays Assistant General Manager) Tony LaCava and I were up in Toronto talking about it. We got the call after the game and I remember thinking these guys are going to say we need to make a move with him. They were emphatic. They said 'No, he's right there he's about to turn the corner.' I give them credit. Every start since then he's gotten better."
