RF Ryan Kalish smacks his first Double-A homer

(Erie, PA) - RF Brennan Boesch (2-for-4, HR, 5 RBI) and CF Casper Wells (1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) each hit 3-run homers in Erie's (32-25) 11-2 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs (29-28) on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. Portland drops the series opener and fails to go three games over .500 for the first time this season.

RHP Alfredo Figaro (4-2) hurled seven innings allowing two runs on five hits, no walks and eight strikeouts to pick up the win for Erie. RHP Jay Sborz closed out the victory with two perfect frames and two strikeouts.

RF Ryan Kalish (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) accounted for Portland's offense with a 2-run homer in the seventh inning, his first Double-A home run. 3B Jorge Jimenez went 3-for-4 and RF Josh Reddick went 1-for-4 in his return to the Sea Dogs lineup. Reddick was activated from the disabled list before the game, his first action since April 29 against the Binghamton Mets.

RHP Ryne Lawson (1-4) was touched for six runs on six hits in 4.1 IP and took the loss for Portland. Lawson's three walks scored and he allowed two homers in a start for the first time this season.

Erie scored five unearned runs off RHP Richie Lentz (.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 0 ER) and RHP Blake Maxwell in the eighth inning. Lentz eased through the first two batters, recording groundouts but DH Deik Scram reached on an error by 1B Jon Still, leading to seven straight runners reaching base. 2B Scott Sizemore laced a 2-run double, Boesch delivered a 2-run triple and Scram scored on a wild pitch.

Portland and Erie meet in game two of their series on Wednesday night beginning at 7:05 PM. RHP Adam Mills (1-3, 7.89) makes his 10th start of the season and will oppose Erie RHP Jonah Nickerson (3-4, 5.18), who makes his 12th appearance of the year. Notes...LHP Dustin Richardson worked 1.1 scoreless innings and RHP Chad Rhoades had perfect inning of relief for Portland...Jimenez raised his average to .301, which ranks 11th in the Eastern League...Reddick and Wells both were activated after not playing since April...The 'Dogs did not have an at-bat with a runner-in-scoring position...1B Jon Still (0-for-4) is hitless in 26 at-bats.
