Ji-Man Choi Added to World Roster for Futures Game

Choi is batting .305 this season with High Desert and Jackson

Jackson, TN (July 2, 2013) - With the Futures Game less than two weeks away, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday the addition of three players to the roster which included Generals' first baseman Ji-Man Choi. D-backs shortstop Chris Owings was added to the U.S. team, while Padres outfielder Reymond Fuentes was added to the World team.

Tuesday's moves were necessitated by a pair of injuries and a promotion. Owings takes the place of Mariners shortstop and former General Brad Miller, who made his Major League debut Friday. Fuentes replaces Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler, who is on the disabled list with a stress fracture in his shin, and Choi will fill in for Rangers catcher Jorge Alfaro, who broke his hand when he was hit by a pitch Friday.

Choi is hitting .305 this season, splitting time between A+ High Desert and Double-A Jackson. In 21 games with Jackson, Choi has 15 hits, five of them home runs, and 15 RBIs. He currently holds a six-game hitting streak dating back to June 24. The native of South Korea signed with the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in July 2009.

The first basemen will join former teammate, pitcher Taijuan Walker in the game. Choi is now the third player in the Mariner organization to be named to the game, as INF Brad Miller was selected, but will not play in the game due to his call up to the Majors.

The 15th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game takes place at 2 p.m. ET on All-Star Sunday, July 14, at Citi Field in New York and can be seen live on MLB.com, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday.
