Sea Dogs blanked by the 'Wolves 3-0!
The Sea Dogs had seven hits, all singles, including three from C Mark Wagner. DH Jon Still ended a 0-for-26 slump with two hits; LF Ryan Kalish and SS Argenis Diaz went 1-for-4.
Nickerson scattered five hits, issued one walk and fanned two for Erie. The righty's only jam came in the first inning when he stranded two, getting 1B Lars Anderson to ground out. RHP Zach Simons earned a hold with 1.2 scoreless innings and LHP Josh Kite recorded the final two outs to secure the victory.
RHP Adam Mills (1-4) earned his second straight quality start but suffered the loss for Portland. Mills yielded five hits, two runs, two walks and fanned five. Wells gave Erie a 1-0 lead with a solo-homer to lead-off the second inning. Avila blasted his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning with one out, putting Erie in front 2-0. RHP Chris Province surrendered the final run in the eighth inning on a run-scoring single by 3B Mike Hollimon.
The Sea Dogs had only two runners reach second base and have 12 hits in the series. Erie has blasted four homers over two games and leads the Eastern League with 69.
Portland and Erie wrap up their 3-game series on Thursday night beginning at 7:05 PM from Jerry Uht Park. RHP Jarod Plummer (4-2, 4.17) faces RHP Luis Marte (4-5, 3.90) in the series finale.
