Tourists Sprint Past 'Birds 9-2
The Tourists scored in the bottom of the first to grab the lead. Scott Robinson drew a lead off walk. After stealing his 34th base of the season, Robinson scored on a single to left field by Jordan Pacheco.
In the second inning, the Shorebirds tied the score at 1-1. Joe Mahoney notched a one out single. He advanced to second on a wild pitch by Asheville starter Robinson Fabian. After reaching second on a wild pitch, he scored on an RBI single by L.J. Hoes to left field.
The Tourists regained the lead in the fourth. Tyler Massey reached on an error by Greg Miclat to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Carlos Martinez hit a double to right-center field to score Massey, who stole second base.
In the sixth, the Shorebirds scored the equalizer. Ron Welty smoked a lead off double down the left field line. He advanced to third on a ground out by Elvin Polanco. Then, Joe Mahoney connected on a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at 2-2.
The Tourists jumped back in the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Massey drew a lead off walk by reliever Brent Allar. Then, Beau Seabury hit a double that scored Massey. Two batters later, Delta Cleary hit an RBI single to left field to plate Seabury.
In front 4-2, the Tourists blew the game opened in the seventh. Jordan Pacheco and Kiel Roling walked to start the frame. Jimmy Cesario singled to load the bases. Thomas Field then recorded an RBI single to stretch the lead to 5-2. The next batter, Tyler Massey hit a single up the middle to score two to give the Tourists a 7-2 edge. The Shorebirds committed two errors, walked two batters and issued a wild pitch in the inning.
Robinson Fabian earned his third win of the season in six innings of work. He scattered five hits and allowed two runs. Brent Allar was tagged with the loss. In one inning of work, he allowed four hits and five earned runs.
The Shorebirds and Tourists square off in game three on Tuesday at 7:05 PM.
