Tides rally for win in homestand finale

Norfolk rallied from a 7-2 deficit with six unanswered runs as they topped Syracuse 8-7 Tuesday afternoon.

The Tides took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, just prior to an hour and 51 minute rain delay that chased Syracuse starter Ross Detwiler from the contest after he retired just two batters. However, the Chiefs stormed back with seven straight runs over three innings, highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Michael Vento.

Trailing 7-2 in the fourth, Norfolk scored four runs in the fourth to pull within 7-6, then forged ahead in the seventh with two runs on RBI singles by Melvin Dorta and Brandon Pinckney.

Norfolk's bullpen tossed five shutout innings in the contest, as Jim Miller, Fredy Deza (2-1) and Alberto Castillo combined to yield just five hits while striking out seven without walking a batter. Castillo recorded a strikeout for each of his outs as he earned his 9th save of the season.

Brandon Snyder powered Norfolk's offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Victor Diaz, Melvin Dorta and Brandon Pinckney each added two hits and an RBI. Snyder has now hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, upping his average from .200 to .269 over that stretch.

The Tides will embark on a four game road trip starting Wednesday night in Pawtucket, with first pitch slated for 7:05.
