Greenville tops Legends 3-1

August 6, 2009
(GREENVILLE, S.C.) Greenville pitchers Fabian Williamson and Jeremy Kehrt combined to hold the Lexington Legends to one run and five hits as the Drive defeated the Legends 3-1 in Greenville Wednesday night.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With one out, Albert Cartwright doubled, and after Brandon Wikoff walked, Brian Pellegrini lined a single to right field, scoring Cartwright.

Greenville tied it in the bottom of the second. With runners at first and second, Pete Hissey grounded to Cartwright at second. Cartwright threw to shortstop Brandon Wikoff for a force play, but Wikoff was upended by Ryan Dent before he could throw to first for the double play. The ball squirted away, and Shannon Wilkerson scored from second to tie the game at 1-1.

The Drive took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Ty Weeden singled. Wilkerson followed with a double, moving Weeden to third. Dent then doubled off the wall in left, scoring both Weeden and Wilkerson to give the Drive a 3-1 lead.

Williamson (8-3) pitched the first five innings and got the win. He gave up four hits and one run. Kehrt worked the last four innings, allowing one hit. Lexington starter Jordan Lyles (6-10) was the losing pitcher. He pitched seven innings, giving up three hits and three earned runs while striking out six. He did not walk a batter.
