Berry and Snyder outrighted to Pawtucket

The Boston Red Sox tendered one-year qualifying offers to shortstop Stephen Drew, centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, and first baseman Mike Napoli. The club did not tender qualifying offers to right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Clubs retain the right to negotiate and/or enter into a contract agreement with any of their free agents, regardless of whether an offer was made. There are no deadlines for such negotiations and/or agreements.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, a free agent is subject to draft-pick compensation if his former club offers him a guaranteed one-year contract with a salary equal to the average salary of the 125-highest paid players from the prior season.

Players receiving a qualifying offer have until 5:00 p.m. on November 11 to either accept or decline the offer. 

ROSTER MOVES: Outfielder Quintin Berry and infielder Brandon Snyder today were outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket and, as a result, are now free agents.

Additionally, right-handed pitchers Andrew Bailey (right shoulder strain) and Alex Wilson (right thumb sprain), outfielder Ryan Kalish (recovery from right shoulder surgery), and left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller (left foot sprain) were reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.

The Red Sox 40-man roster is now at 36.
