5 Snappers Named A's All Stars
Only one Oakland affiliate made the playoffs, but the Athletics owe their second straight AL West title, at least in part, to a strong farm system. Considering that the Snappers were that one A's affiliate team to make the post season it's no surprise that five players that played in Beloit in 2013 made it onto the "Athletics Organizational All Stars" list.
RHP Reliever, Ryan Dull, is a noticeable name in the A's organization after a great season. He started off in Beloit and played 20 games for the Snappers before being moved up to Stockton, and eventually Double-A Midland before the end of the season. Dull was a 32nd-round pick in 2012 out of UNC Asheville. He was second in the organization with 19 saves; he only blew two; and went 2-5 with a 2.40 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with an 8.67 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Another pitcher, this time a starter, to make the list is RHP Raul Alcantara. The one time Boston Red Sox prospect and Dominican Republic native ended up making 13 starts for Beloit before being promoted to Stockton. Alcantara throws in the mid-90s and his secondary pitches are effective. He went 12-6 with a 3.11 ERA and struck out 124 while walking only 24.
Moving to the infield, SS Daniel Robertson had a great year. Defensively, he was fantastic in 99 games for Beloit. The 34th overall draft pick in 2012 out of high school batted .277 in his first full season, which didn't start until April 26, because of offseason knee surgery.
3B Renato Nunez also made the cut as an A's Organization All Star. The 19 year old from Venezuela had 19 homers, 27 doubles and 85 RBIs in his first season above Rookie ball.
Last, but certainly not least, Beloit fan favorite, 2B Chris Bostick makes the list that is loaded with athleticism and potential. The native of Rochester, NY and 44th round pick (1336th overall) in 2011 put up big numbers for the Snappers this past season. Bostick led the system with 25 stolen bases and collected 14 homers and 25 doubles while reaching base more than 35 percent of the time. In his first full professional season, he played 125 games at second base.
As you can see, the Oakland Athletics' system is loaded with talent. Come out next season to see more great players and great baseball!
