2014 National Anthem Tryouts Set For Saturday

Event will proceed regardless of weather

OKLAHOMA CITY - The 2014 The Oklahoman/Oklahoma City RedHawks National Anthem Tryouts will be held tomorrow, Saturday, March 8 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. in the center court at Penn Square Mall.  

Although there is a chance of inclement weather, the event will proceed as scheduled regardless of the conditions outside.

For the fourth straight year, all 200 time slots for were filled well in advance of the event. Those who are still interested in auditioning can join a standby list at Penn Square Mall beginning at 10 a.m. If the tryouts run ahead of schedule, or if a performer does not show up to their scheduled time, those in the standby line will be chosen to audition. Standby performers will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis and are encouraged to arrive early. The standby line will close at 4:30 p.m.

"This is the best response we've had yet," RedHawks President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. "We're looking forward to some great performances tomorrow and eventually at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark."

Winners will perform at RedHawks games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing at the 2014 home opener on Friday, April 11 against the New Orleans Zephyrs. 

The judging panel will consist of editors and columnists from The Oklahoman, city officials, community leaders, and entertainment professionals. Winners will be chosen based on voice quality, creative style, and stage presence.
