Legends' Lyles named Astros organization pitcher of the year
Lyles, who turned 19 in October, was a supplemental first round draft choice (38th overall pick) in 2008, and was with the Legends for the entire 2009 season. He had a record of seven wins and 11 losses, but struck out 167 batters, the second highest total in the South Atlantic League and the fourth highest in minor league baseball. The 167 strikeouts also set a new Legends' single-season record. Lyles struck out 10 or more batters in four games, and walked only 38 in 144 and 2/3 innings while compiling an earned run average of 3.24.
Former Legend Koby Clemens was named offensive player of the year. Playing for advanced-A Lancaster, Clemens led the California League with a batting average of .345. He also hit 22 home runs and drove in 121 runs.
