Clevenger powers Tides to 4th straight win

June 3, 2014

Steve Clevenger had four hits and five runs batted in to lead Norfolk to a 7-6 comeback win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Tuesday night.

Clevenger, who entered the contest 0-for-11 in three games since being optioned to Norfolk from Baltimore on May 30, singled and doubled three times to help the Tides extend their season-long winning streak to four games. Norfolk trailed the contest 6-5 with two outs in the ninth, but Clevenger plated two runs with a double off of Robert Coello (1-1) to give the Tides a lead they would not relinquish.

The five runs batted in tied a Norfolk season-high, previously set by Buck Britton.

Heath Bell (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning, while Evan Meek picked up his third save in four days with a perfect ninth frame.

Julio Borbon homered as part of a three-hit night, while Chris Marrero added three hits to extend his season-long hitting streak to eight games.

The Tides and RailRiders will continue their four-game series Wednesday night, with first pitch from PNC Field set for 7:05 pm. Kevin Gausman (1-3, 2.40) is slated to make the start for Norfolk against right-hander Joel De La Cruz (1-3, 3.03).
