CC authors fourth shutout of the season
June 7, 2014

MIDLAND - Jordan Jankowski was superb Friday night and Corpus Christi backed him with a pair of runs as the Hooks ended their four-game slide with a 2-0 victory over Midland at Security Bank Ballpark.

Jankowski (1-1), who tossed a career-high 7.1 innings, held the Hounds (32-28) to three singles and one walk. He fanned seven and threw 69 of 97 pitches for strikes en route to his first Double-A triumph.

The free pass was to Chad Oberacker, the final batter Jankowski faced. Patrick Urckfitz entered from the pen and promptly induced a 4-6-3 double play to end the eighth.

In the ninth, Urckfitz struck out Anthony Aliotti, who represented the tying run, to notch his third save of the season.

The Hooks (30-30) broke through against Chris Jensen (2-6) in the fourth. Nolan Fontana opened with a double down the right-field line and scored on Carlos Perdomo's single to center.

Corpus Christi added on in the fourth. With two away, Delino DeShields, Jr., coaxed a walk. Jonathan Meyer was next and sent a line drive into left-center, chasing DeShields home from first.

The victory is the club's first in eight tries at Midland this year. All of those contests were decided by two runs or fewer.

The Hooks return to Whataburger Field for an eight-game homestand, beginning Saturday night at 7:10. Kyle Smith (2-2) gets the ball for Corpus Christi. San Antonio sends James Needy (4-3) to the hill. Gates open at 5:40 as the first 2,500 fans receive an Astros Sliding Nolan Ryan Bobblehead from Wigington, Rumley, Dunn & Ritch.
