Gabryszwski spells success
MIDLAND, Mich. - Jeremy Gabryszwski picked up his sixth consecutive win as the Lansing Lugnuts (6-3, 38-40) defeated the Great Lakes Loons (4-5, 38-41), 3-2, on Saturday night at Dow Diamond.
Gabryszwski (Win, 6-2) allowed a pair of runs in the third inning, but finished six strong innings with seven strikeouts and one walk, scattering seven hits.
The Lansing offense spotted Gabryszwski a three-run lead early. Matt Dean and Derrick Loveless each drove in a run in the first inning against starter Scott Barlow (Loss, 2-3).
Center fielder D.J. Davis drove in a third run in the second inning with an two-out RBI single.
After two scoreless relief innings by Alonzo Gonzalez (Hold, 2), closer Griffin Murphy (Save, 15) pitched a perfect ninth inning to extend his Midwest League saves lead.
Third baseman Mitch Nay went 2-for-4 with a double. Loveless finished the night 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
The Lugnuts and Loons play the third of the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond. Lefty Shane Dawson (2-3, 3.79) starts on the mound for Lansing, with right Greg Harris (5-5, 5.26) pitching for Great Lakes.
