RailRiders and Braves Suspended by Rain

Contest to Resume Play on Thursday, July 23 at 11 a.m.
July 23, 2014

Lawrenceville, Ga. - The good times kept on rolling for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) Wednesday night, that is until an 1:02 rain delay spoiled the RailRiders' fun through the first 2.2 innings with SWB leading 8-0. Zoilo Almonte clubbed two home runs in his first two at-bats, and the RailRiders marched 10 men to the plate in a seven-run third inning prior to the driving rain halting play. The RailRiders and Gwinnett Braves (Atlanta Braves) will resume Wednesday night's suspended affair on Thursday, July 24 at 11 a.m. with Taylor Dugas at the plate and the RailRiders batting with two outs in the third.

Following the completion of the nine-inning game, both clubs will play a seven-inning contest to complete the four-game series.

Almonte had led the charge from the start, blasting the first of his two home runs on a 2-2 pitch off G-Braves' starter and SWB alumnus Kanekoa Texeira on a moonshot home run over the right field wall for the initial lead, 1-0. The RailRiders added to the advantage in a seven-run third. Almonte gave SWB the plush 4-0 cushion on his second dinger of the night, a three-run tater to right. Kyle Roller and Austin Romine followed an Adonis Garcia fly out with back-to-back base hits to center and a walk to Corban Joseph loaded the bases for Rob Segedin. The newest RailRider collected his seventh RBI in three games with a bases loaded walk before Carmen Angelini followed with a two-run single that made the lead 8-0.

The RailRiders and G-Braves conclude the four-game series Thursday, July 24 when the two resume tonight's game in the visiting third at 11:00 a.m. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will toss left-hander Nik Turley (0-2, 6.14) in game No. 2 while the Braves counter with the righty Terry Doyle (6-5, 3.65).  John Sadak will have the call on radio with the pregame show beginning at 10:30 a.m. on NEPA Sports Radio -The GAME, Northeast PA's largest radio network: 100.7 FM, 1340 WYCK-AM, 1400 WICK-AM, 1440 WCDL-AM and 106.7 FM.
