Indians, Rangers Extend Affiliation

Teams reach agreement on two-year deal to continue relationship

Spokane, WA - The Spokane Indians announced today the team has reached an agreement to extend the player development contract with the Texas Rangers for two more years. The contract will be for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

"We're more than excited to be able to continue the affiliation with the Texas Rangers two more years," said Spokane Indians Vice President-General Manager Chris Duff. "This partnership has been nothing but successful since 2003."

The Indians originally became a Rangers' affiliate in 2003. Since the teams have been partnered, Spokane has won three Northwest League Championships (2003, 2005 and 2008). Spokane has also led the league in attendance every year, as last year the team broke an attendance record by averaging 5,064 fans at each game. There have been 42 total Indians to make the major leagues since the affiliation began.

"It was a no-brainer to continue a working relationship with Spokane as we watch our organization's players develop into major leaguers," said Jon Daniels, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager of the Texas Rangers. "The Avista Stadium facility, the Indians' attendance and the community support are all major factors in continuing this partnership."

The Indians are currently in their quest to capture a fourth NWL Championship while being affiliated with Texas. The team has already clinched a playoff spot and will host Game 2 of the North Divisional Round on Wednesday, September 3rd.
