MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Redbirds brought out the big bats to take the second game of a six-game series in Durham against the Durham Bulls by the final score of 9-6 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Wednesday night.

Second baseman Nolan Gorman simply continued to do Nolan Gorman things. In each the first and second innings, Gorman blasted a two-run home run deep into the Durham night sky.

Wednesday night marked the prospect’s second multi-homer game of the season and moved him into a tie for the MiLB lead in home runs with 10 with fellow Cardinals prospect Moises Gomez of Springfield. On the night, Gorman went 4-for-5 with his two home runs, a double and a single to raise his hitting streak to 14 games.

That wouldn’t be the only Memphis homer of the night. In total, the Redbirds blasted five long balls, a season-high in a nine-inning game. Third baseman Juan Yepez, shortstop Evan Mendoza and designated hitter Alec Burleson all added solo shots to lift Memphis past Durham. The top four in the Redbirds order combined for 11 of the team’s 14 hits.

Memphis pitching combined to strike out 12 Bulls in the win. Starter Connor Thomas tossed four innings, allowing two runs and striking out five. Angel Rondon (1-0) earned the win in relief while Jake Walsh pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his fourth save of the 2022 season.

The Memphis Redbirds (11-9) return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina for game three of the six-game series on Thursday night at 5:35 p.m. CDT to take on the Durham Bulls (7-13).
