Three Two-Run Home Runs Result In 7-3 Victory

Cedar Rapids, IA – Cedar Rapids wrapped up its six-game series against Wisconsin Sunday afternoon, winning the finale 7-3 at Perfect Game at Veterans Stadium. The Kernels showed their power at the plate, hitting a trio of two-run home runs. Seth Gray connected for his 14th round-tripper of the season

*Cedar Rapids, IA – *Cedar Rapids wrapped up its six-game series against Wisconsin Sunday afternoon, winning the finale 7-3 at Perfect Game at Veterans Stadium.

The Kernels showed their power at the plate, hitting a trio of two-run home runs. Seth Gray connected for his 14th round-tripper of the season in the first inning, blasting a ball over the right field fence that scored Brooks Lee.

After the Timber Rattlers tied the game with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, Cedar Rapids plated five runs in its half of the frame. Wander Javier his 10th home run of the year with Jeferson Morales on base. Later in the inning, Brooks Lee -- the Minnesota Twins’ top pick in last month’s draft – hit his second professional home run.

Jaylen Nowlin (1-0) started the game for the Kernels on the mound. He tossed six innings, allowed three hits and two earned runs and recorded 11 strikeouts while walking one batter.

Cedar Rapids beat Wisconsin five of the six games and have won six of the last seven overall. Starting Tuesday, the Kernels hit the road for a pair of six-game series’ against Lake County and Dayton following an off day tomorrow.

On Aug. 30, the Kernels will be hosting the first-ever Yappy Hour. Fans can bring their dog to the ballpark, where they will have full access to the grass in the outfield. The event is free.

Cedar Rapids’ final home stand of the regular season against the South Bend Cubs starts Tuesday, Sept. 6th.
