The Knights started off strong and had a 2-0 lead thanks to Payton’s two-run double in the fifth inning. It proved to be Charlotte’s only runs of the game as the Sounds battled back to score five unanswered runs the rest of the way against the Knights.

LHP Kyle Kubat started for the Knights and was sharp over five innings. Kubat struck out six batters and allowed just one run on two hits. He allowed his first and only run of the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run to Mark Mathias. Kubat left the game with a 2-1 lead after five full innings.

LHP Hunter Schryver (2-1, 2.67) came on in relief to start the sixth inning and allowed two runs in the frame against the Sounds. Schryver ran into trouble in the inning and loaded the bases. He then allowed two runs to score in the inning, the first on a Tyler White hit by pitch and the second on a bases-loaded walk. He was charged with the loss.

In the seventh inning, the Sounds added two more runs against the Knights courtesy of a two-run home run off the bat of Brice Turang. The two-run home run came off Charlotte reliever Kade McClure.

First baseman Xavier Fernández and right fielder Tyler Neslony chipped in with two hits apiece for the Knights in the game one loss.
