Late Rally Falls Short For Spinners In 6-5, 10-Inning Loss

LOWELL, MA - It took 10 innings, but after picking up a 6-2 win the night before, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, fell 6-5 to the Hudson Valley Renegades, affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, on Monday night after rallying to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.
In the top of the first inning, the Renegades (35-22) got on the board first when Hill Alexander scored on an RBI-double by Jacson McGowan, making it 1-0 early on. In the bottom half, the Spinners (32-26) tied it up at one run apiece when Nicholas Northcut singled home Cameron Cannon.
In the top of the second inning, K.V. Edwards continued Hudson Valley's attack driving home Garrett Hiott on a sacrifice fly - making it 2-1 in favor of the Renegades.
After Hudson Valley kept it going in the top of the third, scoring two runs in the frame, Lowell got back on the scoreboard an RBI single by Antoni Flores , scoring Jaxx Groshans from third base - cutting the Renegades lead in half.
Hudson Valley scored one in the top of the seventh inning, but fell victim to the Spinners rally in the bottom of the eighth as Lowell scored three to tie it at five runs apiece.
The first run came when Stephen Scott scored on an RBI ground out by Groshans, and Nick Decker picked up his third hit of the night - an RBI single that scored Alex Erro , who had entered as a pinch-runner earlier in the inning.
After Groshans reached second on the ground ball by Scott, he was quickly replaced in favor of Wil Dalton who later scored on a wild pitch to tie the ballgame.
After both teams stayed quiet in the ninth inning, the Renegades were the next to score when McGowan reached on an error by Northcut at third base that scored Edwards from third base.
Aldo Ramirez got the start on the hill for the Spinners and wound up picking up a no-decision in the game. Ramirez went five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on 7 hits. He also walked one and collected four strikeouts.
2019, 21^st round pick out of Long Beach State, Dylan Spacke was first out of the bullpen and he kept the Hudson Valley batters in check going a solid three innings, allowing one run on two hits. He also picked up one walk and struck out five.
Lowell is back in action on Wednesday night when they take on the Staten Island Yankees, affiliate of the New York Yankees, at Richmond County Bank Ballpark - first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
