Dylan Rosa got the Whitecaps on the scoreboard in the third with an RBI-single to score Garrett McCain. The score remained the same until the seventh, when Lansing loaded the bases on errors by pitcher John Hayes and catcher Joey Morgan. Lugnuts third baseman Cullen Large tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and an infield single by Kevin Vicuña gave the 'Nuts a 2-1 lead. Kacy Clemens drove in an insurance run with an infield single, while Cole Peterson's throwing error gave Lansing another run and a 4-1 lead. The Whitecaps nearly took the lead in the ninth when Peterson lifted a fly ball down the left field line that fell just foul of what would've been a go-ahead three-run home run before flying out to end the contest.
Eudis Idrogo started on the mound for West Michigan and tossed six scoreless innings while striking out five. The left-hander has now thrown 11 innings and allowed only one earned run through two starts. Lansing reliever Turner Larkins (1-1) tossed 3.1 innings of one-run baseball while striking out seven to record his first win. Whitecaps reliever John Hayes (0-1) suffered the loss in his 2018 debut while allowing four runs in his only inning on the mound. Lugnuts reliever Ty Tice retired the only two batters he faced to record his third save of the early season. The Whitecaps fall to 6-2, while the Lugnuts improve to 6-3 while snapping the 'Caps five-game winning streak.
