Welcome back to Baseballtown! Mickey Moniak will be joining the Reading Fightin Phils for the second time in his career, this time as a Major League rehab appearance. He will be starting Tuesday for the team’s next homestand against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets).

After suffering a broken right hand during the final game of spring training on April 7, Moniak was placed on the injured list. He began his rehab with the Clearwater Threshers on May 20. Through three games, Moniak had four hits including a double and a triple, two RBIs and one run scored. He comes into Reading batting .400 with a .462 on-base percentage.

Moniak played with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2020 and 2021. Through 29 games, Moniak tallied seven walks, six hits and six runs. He hit his first career major league homerun in 2021 and turned in a .214 batting average as well as a .389 on-base percentage during his rookie season in 2020.

The Phillies selected Moniak with the first-overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. The Encinitas, California, native spent the 2019 season with the R-Phils when the team finished with an Eastern League-best 80-59 overall record, a second-half East Division title and a playoff appearance. Moniak led the team with 117 hits and 13 triples and was tied for a team-best 67 RBIs. He also tallied 11 home runs as well as a .252 batting average and a .303 on-base percentage.
